Proverbs 4:1-2

Reading this takes someone with a Jewish mindset back to Deuteronomy 6. The first word for "hear" in verse 1 is the Hebrew word “Shama.” It means more than just recognizing the words. When employees at your job start talking about the football game, you hear the words; however, that's not Shama. Shama is the same word that the Hebrews also used for obedience. It means that you hear the word in an attentive way while allowing it to propel your heart and mind to a place of joyful obedience.⁠⁠

This is what Deuteronomy 6:4 means. “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”⁠⁠

Don't just cognitively hear the words, but rather allow the words to transform your current reality and perspective.⁠⁠
